After graduating from the University of Cambridge, Mr Demetriades completed his basic surgical training on the prestigious Basic Surgical Rotation at Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Hospitals and at Queen Square, London. He entered the Higher Surgical Training programme on the South London circuit and trained as a Senior Registrar at King’s College Hospital, St. George’s Hospital, and Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals. He has completed fellowships in skull base surgery with Professor Kawase in Keio University, Tokyo, and in complex spine surgery with Professor Meyer at the Technical University Hospital in Munich. Furthermore, he undertook another Complex Spine Fellowship with the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Oxford.
He is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Royal Infirmary of the University of Edinburgh.
He served as President of the EANS 2021-2023.
His main research interests are outcome studies in clinical neurosurgery, including spinal surgery; traumatic brain injury; spinal trauma; polytrauma; Trigeminal neuralgia; and history of neuroscience.
